Gail Sharon McConnaughey Allen , 75, Surprise, Arizona, passed away, Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Arizona Traditions, after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Gail was born February 1, 1944 in Culver City, California to her parents, Claude E. Felton and Twila R. Felton. Gail graduated from Culver City High School in 1961 and later attended college at Long Beach City College. Gail worked for North American Rockwell as a clerk. She married Thomas J. McConnaughey on August 10, 1963, and had three children, Daniel P. McConnaughey, Sheila Ann McConnaughey Fateley, and Shelley Lynn McConnaughey Ayala.
Gail moved from California in 1971 to Junction City, Kansas and then to Westmoreland, KS in 1973. Gail worked for Pottawatomie County and was the Administrator for Planning and Zoning.
In the late 90’s she moved to Wamego, KS and lost her husband, Thomas J. McConnaughey in 2003 and then retired from Pottawatomie County after thirty years of service. In approximately 2005, Gail moved to Danville, Indiana to be closer to her family and in April 22, 2006 she met and married Warren Allen, and moved to Plainfield, IN. Warren has three children, Joe Allen, Janis Allen and Julie Lopez Allen.
Gail and Warren enjoyed spending time remodeling the house, playing golf together and traveling. They spent many winters in Texas and Gail enjoyed her favorite hobby, line dancing. They also enjoyed hanging out with their friends. Warren and Gail though having a busy lifestyle were never too busy to help their children and grandchildren in need.
In 2013, Gail’s daughter, Shelly Lynn Alaya McConnaughey passed away unexpectedly. Shortly thereafter Gail was originally diagnosed with Parkinson Disease. Warren and Gail then moved to Pahrump, Nevada and then moved to an over 55 community, Arizona Traditions in Surprise, AZ to be closer to Gail’s sister, Gloria Kelly and husband Jerry Kelly, and her niece Cheri Innis and husband, Ron Innis; and another reason was to be closer to better medical facilities. After some time Gail would be re-diagnosed with a rare illness called PSP or Progressive Supranuclear Disease.
Gail is survived by her husband, Warren Allen; a son, Daniel McConnaughey (Rebecca); a daughter, Sheila Fateley (Jonathan); five grandchildren, Melody Fateley, Miranda Fateley, Olivia Fateley, Anthony McConnaughey, and Amanda McConnaughey; a sister, Gloria Kelly; a niece, Cheri Innis (Ron); three step-children, Joe, Janis and Julie Allen; and many more step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service for Gail will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2019 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Inurnment will follow at the Wamego City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to CurePSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) Organization, or the American Parkinson Disease Association, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
