Gary Meidinger, 65, Wamego, KS, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.
On May 30, 1953, Gary was born to Leopold and Pauline (Eckman) Meidinger in Eureka, SD. Gary attended high school in Wishek, ND, and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in business administration. He started his career with Westinghouse Electrical Corporation before working for McCall Pattern Company as an accountant for 13 years. Gary then became co-founder and CFO of Prizm, Inc. in Manhattan, KS, for 18 years. He was united in marriage with Julie Brown on September 5, 2005, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Gary had a passion for playing golf. He also enjoyed Kansas State football and basketball, along with camping, boating, and fishing. He loved to travel, especially with family and friends, and he could build anything, from toy boxes to decks. Gary’s greatest joy in life were his five grandchildren, and he was tremendously proud of his two son’s military service. He was a member of the Wamego Hospital Board and served as an accountant at the Wamego Country Club and Mount Calvary Lutheran Church for a few years.
Gary is survived by Julie, his wife and partner of 27 years; a daughter, Liza Jackson (Josh), Olathe, KS; three sons, Scott Turnbow, Gardner, KS, Travis Turnbow, Las Vegas, NV, and Ward Thomas, Stockton, KS; four brothers, Victor (Janice), Wishek, ND, James (Sharon), St. George, UT, Walter (Marge) Fargo, ND, and Donald, Fort Myers Beach, FL; six sisters, Violet Kaseman, Wishek, ND, Ruth Thurn, Wishek, ND, Verna Lockwood (Gary), Eastvale, CA, Mary Lou Cornella, Hawthorne, NV, Ruby Hartman (Ron), Fargo, ND, and Grace Sufka (Bill), Andover, MN; a brother-in-law, Larry Wald, Wishek, ND; five grandchildren, Tanner, Brady, Reagan, Levi, and Kendal Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Linda Wald; and three brother-in-laws, Elmer Kaseman, Herman Thurn, and Del Cornella.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Funeral service for Gary will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and the Wamego Area Youth Golf Foundation, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
