"Pete" Gary Lee Peterson

February 3, 1951 — January 3, 2024

Gary "Pete" Peterson exited life's stage on January 3, 2024, at 72 years of age. He was the youngest of three sons, born to Carl and Carol (Woodward) Peterson on February 3, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas. 

Pete attended De Soto High School and graduated in 1969. Pete was active in high school sports and roller-skated competitively, placing 4th in nationals. After high school, he attended K-State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in psychology. 

Pete poured concrete vertical foundations for a few years and then formed his own business, Flinthills Foundation Co. In 2012, Pete sold his company and embarked upon retirement. 

He enjoyed the outdoors and bow hunting and fishing. He and Vickie enjoyed vacations anywhere there were mountains and their trips to Custer St. Park in the Blackhills. 

Pete is survived by his life companion, Vickie, of the home; son, Aaron (Sony) Peterson, of Bellingham, WA; daughter, Kim (Leroy) O'Bray, of Pittsburgh, KS; Brother, Richard (Gloria) Peterson, of St. Louis, MO; half brother, Phil (Rita) Peterson, of Lenexa, KS; and Grandchildren, Adam Peterson, Kaden Gatewood, Kallan O'Bray, and Kamden O'Bray, and numerous nieces’ nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsay Peterson; his brother, David Peterson; and his parents, Carl and Carol Peterson.

A Celebration of life will be held on January 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. The family would like to honor Pete’s wishes and asks friends and family to dress casually in his honor.  A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time on January 13, 2024. 

A graveside service with inurnment will be held in the spring at Calhoun Cemetery in Missouri Valley, Iowa. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to WildTrust Kansas Department of Wildlife for the Skills & Ethics Fund to support youth hunting programs and can be left in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
