Georgia M. Shinski

May 18, 1921 — June 1, 2019

   Georgia M. Shinski of Lenexa, formerly of Wamego, Kansas passed away June 1, 2019 following a short illness. Georgia was born May 18, 1921 to George and Belle (Simon) Miller in Pottawatomie County, KS. She attended Star UnionSchool (a one room rural school), Riley Elementary, and graduated from Riley Rural High School in 1939. Georgia worked for the Riley Regent Newspaper and the Riley Telephone Company. She marriedCharles D. Shinski in Yuma, Arizona in July of 1940. Charles served in the Coast Guard during WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor and the Aleutian Islands. Charles and Georgia lived most of their lives in Wamego and Manhattan, KS.

Georgia moved to Lenexa, KS from Manhattan, KS in January 2016 to be near her family. She lived avery full life and was fiercely independent and witty until the end. She was dedicated to her family. She was always the first to be there when a family member or friend needed her. She enjoyed visiting withher family and friends and always had a smile for everyone. In earlier years she enjoyed sewing,gardening and working outdoors. She loved reading books and liked to follow K-State football. She willbe remembered for her kindness and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and in June of 1999, by her husband Charles. She is survivedby her son Clifford W. Shinski and his wife Shari of Overland Park, KS; two grandchildren, Tracy L. Hawkins and her husband Matthew of Gretna, NE, and Charles A. Shinski and his wife Danae of Olathe, KS; five great-grandchildren, Shelby, Dalton and Seth Hawkins, and Adam and Simon Shinski.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Visitation of life will be held from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. with the service following visitation. Graveside service will be at the Wamego Cemetery. A light lunch will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Kansas Honor Flight sponsored by Wamego High School, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, 66547. Online condolences may be left at www.stewartfuneralhomes.com
