Herbert Arnold Daniels

   Herbert Arnold Daniels, MD, age 77, died on January 23, 2024, at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. 

   He was born on November 30, 1946, the son of Arnold LeRoy and Marcella Alice (Pierce) Daniels. 

   Herb married Carolyn Mary Brown on September 16, 1966, in Albany, Oregon. She survives of the home. 

   He attended Sweet Home High School and graduated in 1965. He then attended the University of Oregon and graduated in 1969 with a degree in biology. He joined the Air Force and retired after 17 years as a Lt. Col. Herb graduated from the University of Oregon with his M.D. in 1975. He stayed at the U of O and completed his residence in Ear, Nose, and Throat in 1980. He was then stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines from 1980-1983. Once stateside, he completed a one-year head-and-neck cancer fellowship in Indianapolis, IN. After retiring from the Air Force, Herb and family moved to Leawood, Kansas, where he practiced at KU Med and then in private practice in Kansas City, KS. Herb retired from the practice of medicine in 2001.

   Herb was raised in a Christian home and believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He passed his faith on to his children and grandchildren, was an example to others, and developed a deep knowledge of the Bible. 

   Herb loved working outside in his yard or at church. He was quick to volunteer for manual labor jobs to help family, friends, and at the church or Community Care Ministries. He enjoyed reading and learning new things, loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, and was a good and faithful servant of God to his family and neighbors.

   Herb was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Daniels; daughters Bethany (Brad) Fields, and Heather (Michael) Petermann; grandchildren, Nathaniel Fields, Maryn Petermann, and Marcella Petermann; Brothers, Edward Daniels, Michael Daniels, and Douglas Daniels. 

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Marcella Daniels, and his brother, Richard Daniels. 

   A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Cross Point Community Church, 612 US-24, Wamego, KS 66547.
