Jackie “Jack” D. Platt, 68, of Manhattan, KS, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, Friday, November 16, 2018, after a long battle with lung cancer.
Jack was born May 20, 1950 in Yates Center, KS, to Clare, Sr. and LaVerne (Bray) Platt. He attended grade school in Hamilton, KS and graduated from high school in Liberty, MO. He spent his entire working career as a welder and boilermaker, starting as an apprentice boilermaker from 1970 – 1972. He then became a member of the Boilermakers Labor Union #83. He enjoyed traveling for many years to job sites all over the U.S. and working on projects for weeks at a time.
Jack had a love for his Rottweilers, enjoyed boating and fishing, playing cards and was an avid pool player. He also loved spending time in Colorado.
Jack was married to Ronda Gordon on December 30, 1988 at Wells Creek Church near Belvue, KS. She survives of the home. From his previous marriage, he has surviving children: Nicole Thompson (Rich), Jerry Platt, Amber Gibson and her children, Cody, Colt, Connor, and Clint; and his granddaughter, Jackie, who he raised from her childhood and loved very much.
Jack was one of 7 boys, and is survived by his brothers: Clare Platt, Jr. (Sharon), Clyde Platt (Wanda), John Platt (Dorothy), Jim Platt, and Preston Platt (Nance). He was preceded by two brothers, Jerry, and Frank; his parents, and a sister in-law, Nan Platt.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Caring Neighbors Fund, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
