James Martin Eichman

  James Martin Eichman, 87, of Westmoreland, KS passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.

  Jim was born on January 20, 1932 at Paris, Arkansas, son of Edward Joseph Eichman and Anna Marie (Lux). The family moved to the Flush Community when Jim was 7 years old. He attended Flush Grade School and graduated from Flush High School in 1951. He immediately joined the Air Force and after training in Texas, he was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base until October 1955. After his honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant, he continued working at McConnell as a Crew Chief on the B47 bombers stationed there. Jim moved back to the Flush community in October 1963 and began farming with his brothers Delbert and Emil.

  Almost immediately after completing his four years of service in the Air Force, Jim met his wife Mildred on a “blind date” in October 1955. Jim and Mildred were married at St. Anthony Church in Wellington, KS on November 24, 1956. To this union the couple was blessed with five sons: Steve (Mary Jo), Dave (Teresa), Philip (Laurie), Brent (Glenda), Matthew (Paulette). A baby daughter (Laurine Kay) was born in March 1965 and died five hours later. After many prayers, Jim and Mildred were blessed with the birth of Loretta (Don) Marable.

  Jim was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Flush. He was a board member of Rural Water District#1, State Watershed board for 10 years, Grand Knight of Flush Council 902 Knights of Columbus, and a 4th degree Knight.

  Jim and Mildred have 16 grandchildren: Kara (Ben) Lammers (and 1st Great Grandchild, Adeline), Morgan (Michael) Mischloney; Justin, Cristina; Derek (Masha), Staton, Alexandra; Jameson, Lane (Brittany), Sydney; Nate, Destri, Allyson, Grant; Britton & Travis.

  Jim is survived by a brother Emil (Carol Lynn) and a sister Margaret (Leon) Hunt. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edward (Joann) and Delbert (Carol Ann) and sister Alice (Ed) Gereau.

  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for James will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, KS. Inurnment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.  Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 20th at the church with the family greeting friends in the church hall to follow.  In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the St. Joseph Catholic Church or the Good Shepherd Hospice House to help those in need of care, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
