John Lawrence Eichem

December 8, 1956 — February 19, 2025

Westmoreland, Kansas

John Lawrence Eichem, affectionately known as Johnny “Cobb," bid farewell to this world on February 19, 2025, at his home in Westmoreland, Kansas.

John was born December 8, 1956, in Westmoreland to parents Leland and Marjore (Weber) Eichem. John married Karen Brazzle on April 1, 1977, in Wabaunsee County. Years later, she would claim she didn’t realize she didn’t know she was married on April Fools, but the next 44 years would be filled with laughter and pranks.

John started his career at Midas as a maintenance technician and worked his way up to store manager over an impressive 42 years. He wasn’t one to shy away from getting his hands dirty; even as a manager, he could often be found welding or lending a helping hand under the hood. His work ethic led to him ensuring that the job was done right and to the best of his ability.

But let’s not forget the fun and ornery side of John! He had a gift for gab and could turn any stranger into a friend within minutes. His dark humor kept everyone on their toes; he loved to pull pranks, especially on his employees. From harmless jokes to bottle rockets shot at unsuspecting targets, he knew how to get laughter and eye-rolls.

John was also a proud restoration enthusiast, showing off his beloved “Big Foot” 1976 Chevy truck and the more than 20 John Deer lawnmowers he lovingly repaired. He was a classic car lover and accrued over 60 vehicles over the years. He was proud to carry the title of chairman of the Bud Light Club. He knew how to have a good time and bring his family together.

Family was John’s ultimate pride and joy, and he especially loved spending time catfishing with his grandchildren. Although his wife might have scoffed at having to fry up the fish, it undoubtedly led to some of the most cherished mealtime memories. And let us not forget his fur babies—Chico, Sadie, Boots, and Ginger—who were just as much a part of the family as his human clan.

John is survived by his children, Eric and Cherie Eichem, and Nicole and Ryan Turner; his grandchildren, Brianna, Audree, Ryan Jr., Kinsey, Christian, Madison, Hannah, and Hailey, along with his bonus grandchildren Avalyn and Titan; siblings, Linda Bishop (Larry) and Wayne Eichem (Shirley); niece, Kim McLaughlin; and fur babies Ginger and Boots. They will all miss his ever-present sense of humor and the countless unforgettable moments shared together.

John is now reunited with his parents, beloved wife, niece Tracie, and dog Chico. As we say goodbye to a man who cherished laughter, pranks, and the beauty of life’s simple pleasures.

John will lie in state on February 28, 2025, starting at 4:00 p.m. at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Family will greet friends with a visitation on February 28, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place the next day, March 1, 2025, starting at 11:00 a.m.
