Joyce Elizabeth Green, 91, passed away on March 11, 2019 at the Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, KS.

  Joyce was born on June 25, 1927 in Paxico, KS to Otto and Irma (Johnson) Glotzbach.  She grew up in Wamego, KS graduating from Wamego High School in 1945.  She was united in marriage with Thomas Merrill in 1946, and they gave birth to seven children.  After her divorce, she was united in marriage to J. Robert “Bob” Green and gained six more children.

  After her remarriage, the Merrill/Green family moved to Kansas City, KS until 1976 when Joyce, Bob, and son, Christopher, moved to Huntsville, AL.  Joyce remained in Huntsville after Bob’s death until 2011 before moving back to the Kansas City area to be near family.

  At a very young age, Joyce, began playing the violin and showed a remarkable talent.  She played throughout high school and the University of Kansas.  After moving to Kansas City, she played with the Kansas City Civic Orchestra.  In Huntsville, she attended the University of Alabama-Huntsville, played with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and retired after 30 years.  She also taught private violin lessons and was active with the Huntsville Youth Orchestra.

  Joyce was active in many clubs, including the McDowell Music Club in Kansas City and the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She also sang in the Huntsville Community Chorus, and preformed with the Glotzbach family trio, Joyce, Patricia and Robert, in the Colombian Theatre in Wamego.

  She is preceded in death by her husband, first born baby, Richard Anthony Merrill; three children, Suzanne Braglin, Thomas “Bill” William Merrill, and Lance Green; three siblings, Alice Soldan, Virginia Thompson, and Robert “Bob” Glotzbach; and two sons-in-law, Richard Hageman and Steven Bowman.

  She is survived by nine children, Kathleen Carr (Dean), Margaret “Peggy” Hageman, Pamela Madden (Mike), Alice Bowman, Michael Green (Jeanine), Valeria Corbeille (Ron), Danielle Spain, Heather McLoughlin (Bill), and Christopher Green; a daughter-in-law, Leslie Green; a sister, Patricia Huddleston; and twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

  Visitation for Joyce will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2019 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wamego, KS with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in the Wamego City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Huntsville Youth Orchestra and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
