Julian A. Siebert, 100, of Flush, Kansas passed away on Tuesday (December 5, 2023) at his home with his family at his side.
Born November 28, 1923 in Flush, Kansas, Julian was the son of Frederick and Aurelia Rose (Umscheid) Siebert. He married Barbara Prockish on July 11, 1956 in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush. She survives.
Mr. Siebert served his country as a Corporal in the U. S. Army during WW II, serving in the European, African, Middle Eastern theater. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was captured on Christmas Day, 1944 and was a P. O. W. until the wars end. He earned a Bronze Star Medal, a POW Medal and a EAME Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars.
Julian was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was one of the first Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers of the church and had served on the parish council. He also served for 26 years on the Rock Creek Watershed Board, District 15. Julian was an 81 year member of the Knights of Columbus, the Battle of the Bulge group in Manhattan, KS, Westmoreland American Legion Post No. 186, National Farmers Organization and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He enjoyed square dancing and feeding the fish at his farm, but his greatest joy came in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Siebert farmed all of his life and was still raising cattle at the age of 96. He was also a rural mail carrier with the USPS for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Barbara; five children, Sandra Siebert (Dr. Steve Stevenson) of Perry, KS, Teresa Wells (Dwight) of Wamego, KS, Keith Siebert (Donna) of Alma, KS, Mike Siebert (Annette) of Westmoreland, KS and Kevin Siebert (Jeanette) of Alvin, TX; twelve grandchildren, Julian Rodriquez (Bronwyn), Joscelyn Mayfield (Marc), Adam Stephenson (Regina), Justin Volkel (Destiney), Jason Sims (Kim), Anthony Siebert (Kellie), Brad Schmitt (Mandy), Andy Schmitt, Eric Siebert, Nicholas Siebert, Evan Siebert and Catherine Siebert; twenty great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a brother, Kenneth Siebert (Bernadette) of Ames, IA; a sister, Anita Weber (Thomas) of Camarillo, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Siebert was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Rita Brockish (Herman), Winifred Hofman (Bill) and Ramona Pavia (Frank); and two brothers, Nates Siebert (Betty) and Leon Siebert (Joan).
Funeral services will be held Monday (December 11, 2023) at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush with Father Mike Peterson Officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the U. S. Army Funeral Honors Detail and the Westmoreland American Legion Post will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush. A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 Sunday at the church.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Wellsprings of Westmoreland and may be left with Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, P. O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
