Kally Kay McConkey, 67, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Saturday (December 16, 2023) at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.
Born February 12, 1956 in Plainville, Kansas, Kally was the daughter of Everett and Clarice (Christensen) Pruter Jr. She married Dennis Michael “Mike” McConkey on October 8, 1978 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2023.
Kally was a member and the Organist of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wamego and had served her country in the National Guard. She loved music, playing piano and the organ for many weddings and funerals over the years. She and Mike enjoyed traveling and going to the casino, combining those two loves by visiting as many Harrah’s Casinos all over the United States as they could. Kally especially enjoyed her trips with Mike to Estes Park, CO. She enjoyed feeding and watching her hummingbirds, drinking her daily coffee and Pepsi and going out to eat with many friends. Kally loved the time she shared with her family and will be remembered for the many times she made Play-Dough with them.
Kally was employed as Clerk of the Board for USD 320 from 1987 to 2011. She had previously worked at Kansas State University and as an administrative assistant for the Wamego Community Foundation.
Kally was a 5 and a half year Pancreatic Cancer survior who ultimately kicked its ASS!
Survivors include two sons, Craig McConkey (and her favorite daughter in law, Ashley) of Wamego and Kyle McConkey of Wamego; four grandchildren, Shaela McConkey, Cooper Gallagher, Libby McConkey and Maddy McConkey; four sisters, Carrie Pruter of Salina, KS, Angie Koshgarian of Salina, KS, Deena Ruggels of Russell, KS and Kenda Johnson (Mark) of Hays, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
Kally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike; and a brother, Brad Pruter.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday morning (January 3, 2024) at 10:30 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wamego with Mother Casey Rohleder officiating. The family will meet with friends following the service at a luncheon next door from the church in the United Methodist Church Hall.
Graveside inurnment will be Wednesday afternoon (January 3, 2024) at 3:00 in Wamego City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening (January 2, 2024) from 5:00 to 7:00 at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.
The family suggests memorial donations to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wamego and those may be left with Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, P. O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
The family asks that everyone honor Kally by wearing tie-dye to the funeral.
