Lawrence D. "Larry" Fechter

November 15, 1933 — February 19, 2024

   Lawrence Delbert Fechter, 90, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Monday February 19, 2024 in Wamego.

   Larry was the youngest of six siblings, born November 15, 1933, in St. George, Kansas, to Arthur Harrison and Julia Elizabeth (Picolet) Fechter.  He married Kay Louise Duncan on November 26, 1960, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego.  She survives.

  Larry was a graduate of Wamego High School and served his country for two years in the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany.  

   Larry was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, the Wamego Lions Club, and the Wamego Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed woodworking and refinishing furniture. 

  He was a community-minded man, holding various positions for the City of Wamego, including Director of Operations, and serving for many years on the Wamego City Council including multiple terms as Mayor. With his wife Kay, Larry owned and operated Wamego Home Furnishings.

   Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Kay; three daughters, Katherine Corwin, Robin Irvin (Mike) and Susan Fechter; three grandchildren, Thomas Irvin (Tina), Laura Rozell (Sam) and Rachel Mintz (Drew); three great-grandchildren, Lydia Irvin, Titus Irvin, and Elaine Irvin; and many nieces and nephews.

   Larry was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles “Vincent” Fechter, Dean Fechter, Victor Fechter, and Harold Fechter, who was killed in action in Italy during WW II; and a sister, Edith Torrey.

   Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.

   Memorial services will be held on Saturday (June 15, 2024) at 10:30 a.m. at the Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home with Father Mike Peterson officiating. Private family inurnment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

   Memorial donations are requested to the Wamego Community Foundation - Friends of the Park or Columbian Theater Foundation.  Please make checks payable to: Wamego Community Foundation (Friends of the Park) or Columbian Theater Foundation and those may be left at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, P.
