Lois Lee Johnson

Lois Lee Johnson, 99, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018 at her daughter’s home following a brief hospital stay.

She was born December 15, 1918 in her home, in rural St. George, Kansas, to Lee and Iola Harrell. She resided in the same home for 99 yrs. She graduated from St. George High School in 1935. She married Harold “Emery” Johnson, June 15, 1941. Emery passed November 11, 1984. Lois remained a widow for nearly 34 years. 

She worked at Kansas State University in the seed lab for several years before marrying Emery where they farmed and raised their children. She was one of the founders of the Wamego United Methodist Church thrift store in 1961 and founder of Widow to Widow, in Wamego, KS. 

Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. She served Christ for over 80 years by preparing and delivering meals, hospice caretaker, and other contributions to her community. She was an avid K-State and KC Royals sports fan. 

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Johnson Bobey and her spouse Jerry Bobey, Topeka, KS and a daughter-in-law, Fran Johnson, Wamego, KS. Eight grandchildren, Troy (Kim) of Wichita, KS, Tara (Randy) of Marshfield, MO, Lyndsey (Adam) of Katy, TX, Lesley (Teddy) of Lenexa, KS, Stephen (Jessica) of Wamego, KS, Heather (Jared) of Manhattan, KS, Angela (Jerome) of Ankeny, IA, Matthew (Nicole)of Eudora, KS, and twenty one great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Elaine and a son, John Johnson. 

A private graveside service and burial will be held Saturday, May 5th at Wamego City Cemetery, followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Wamego, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
