Martin E. Gnadt

Martin Elmer Gnadt, 98, of Alma, Kansas, died Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Lexington Park Health and Rehab in Topeka. He was a life-long member of the community.

Martin was born October 28, 1923, in rural Alma, the son of Frederick W. and Martha (Heideman) Gnadt. He attended Lutheran Grade School and Alma High School. At the age of seventeen, Martin joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in WWII.

Martin and Mary Louise Scott were married on August 11, 1946 in McFarland, Kansas. He owned his own carpentry business, farmed and raised cattle. He loved to ride his horses, working cattle and enjoying trail rides. He had many beloved horses, especially his last two, Boss Hogg and Duke.

Martin was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Alma American Legion. He donated many hours helping set up the Wabaunsee County Museum.

Martin is survived by his daughters, Donna Tranter (Andie), Harveyville and Kathy Davis (Ron), Auburn; his sister Laura Barthuly, Paxico, fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou Scott Gnadt, his sons, Paul Gnadt, Mark Gnadt, and his daughter, Mary Gnadt; and his siblings Frederick Gnadt, Dorothy Koenig and Margaret Senne.

A graveside inurnment will be held at McFarland City Cemetery on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. for family and friends.
The family suggests memorials to St. John Lutheran Church or Wabaunsee County Museum and may be sent to Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.campanellastewart.com.

The family expresses thanks and gratitude to all who cared for Martin at Alma Manor, Lexington Park and Rehab and Prairie Wind Hospice.
