Memory Diana Maginley, 78, of Paxico, Kansas, died Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.
Memory was born on December 12, 1946, in Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Darold Dean and Peggy Jane (DeBruler) Marlow. She attended grade school and graduated from Alma High School in 1964. Memory then attended and graduated from Kansas State University in 1970 with an education degree.
Memory was a 4th grade elementary teacher for thirty-nine years at USD 320 in Wamego. She started her teaching career first at St. Bernard Catholic School for four years before moving to Zeandale. She taught at Zeandale for seven years before moving to West Elementary when it opened in 1980. Memory worked diligently to instill a love of reading in her students and enjoyed reading books to her class making them come alive. After her retirement from full time teaching in 2010, she substitute taught for Mill Creek Valley USD 329 in Alma and Maple Hill elementary schools primarily. She went on the Santa Fe Trail trip for 5th/6th grade students in the Wamego community several times as a sponsor.
Memory was an involved member of the Paxico United Methodist Church, the UMW, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Memory was involved with Happy Valley and Snokomo 4-H Clubs in her youth and also served as a 4-H leader for the Newbury Club. She manned the 4-H Council Food Stand at the Wabaunsee County Fair for thirty years and volunteered as a fiber arts and sewing superintendent. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Women’s Society and the National Education Association. Memory also enjoyed serving as a representative for the Silver Haired Legislature.
Memory loved to read, enjoyed sewing, including clothing construction, quilting, making wall hangings, embroidery work, counted cross stitch Christmas stockings, tea towels, and smocking. She also loved attending her grandchildren's 4-H, school, and sporting activities. She looked forward to meeting with her fellow teacher friends each month to catch up on current events and “solve the world’s problems”. Memory took great pride in living on the farm and actively helped take care of the various farm animals which included a dog, cats, horses, and cattle. She enjoyed raising colts, discussing politics, writing letters, and visiting with her many friends. Memory was always willing to help with a smile and laugh.
Memory married Thomas Lee Maginley on June 15, 1968, in Eskridge. They shared their lives together in Wabaunsee County for almost 33 years until his death on April 2, 2001.
Memory is survived by her daughter, Amber Ellis (Tim), Junction City; her grandchildren, Teagan Ellis, Truxton Ellis, and Paisley Ellis; and her brothers, Denver Marlow (Ali), Manhattan, and Duston Marlow (JoLea), Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the KanEquip building located at the Wabaunsee County Fairgrounds in Alma. Pastor Cindy Neill will be officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery on Snokomo Road, southeast of Paxico. The family will greet friends, Wednesday, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego.
