Nyla Lee Gehrt, age 92, of Wamego, passed away peacefully at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Society of Wamego.
Nyla was born on February 14, 1931, in Alma, Kansas, the daughter of Gustav Adolph and Lydia Frieda (Mehl) Diepenbrock. She attended Alma High School, graduating in 1949.
She worked for Kansas Gas Service, retiring in 1993.
Nyla was a woman of the world and enjoyed traveling. Nyla traveled the entire United States and ventured to China, Russia, and Italy. She enjoyed cruises and trips with her family. She was an avid KSU sports fan and enjoyed the California Golden State Warriors basketball games. Most of all, she loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. While she was able, she never missed a school or sporting event for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nyla is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Buttenhoff, of Alma; Granddaughter, Sarah (Laramy) Lister, of Topeka; and Great-Grandchildren, Katherine, Matthew, Laretta, and McKinley; grandson-in-law, Mark Miller, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Diepenbrock, Son-In-Law, Earl Buttenhoff, and her granddaughter, Morgan Miller.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in the Wamego City Cemetery, with Pastor Bob Grimm officiating.
