Ray Francis Seematter, 86, Manhattan, KS passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Manhattan.
On September 26, 1931, Ray, was born to Jacob and Hazel (Nealis) Seematter in Marysville, KS. After graduating from St. George High School, Ray enlisted for the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was united in marriage with Delta Marie Campbell in California and after his military service, they returned to the family farm. Delta preceded him in death in 1959. Ray continued to farm until his retirement.
Ray enjoyed his cattle, farming and gardening. He was a member of the American Legion and Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years.
He is survived by a son, Terry (Janet) Seematter, Manhattan, KS; a daughter, Cindy (Doug) Nihart, Manhattan, KS; four grandchildren, April Bayless, Wamego, KS, Keri Nihart, Tonganoxie, KS, Chris Seematter, St. George, KS, and Caitlin Davis, Jackson, NE; his companion, Carol Okrup; and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Seematter; a sister, Doris Parson; and a grandson, Luke Nihart.
Funeral service for Ray will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Admantha Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Wamego Area Veteran’s Memorial, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
