Richard D. Brunkow

  Richard D. “Dick” Brunkow, 77, a life-long resident of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista of Wamego.   Dick was born December 28, 1939 in Wamego, the son of Leonard A. and Gertrude (Hunholz) Brunkow. He attended local schools and graduated from Wamego High School. Following school, he worked for several years in the construction business before enlisting into the U.S. Air force. He was stationed in South Carolina as a sheet metal worker until his honorable discharge in 1965. After returning from his military service, he worked for many years at Lichtenhan Plumbing, followed by working as a material fabricator at Balderson Inc. and Caterpillar of Wamego for over 30 years until his retirement in 2010. Dick was also a member of the Blackjack American Legion Post 260 of St. George.   Dick never married, but he was very close to his nieces and nephews who survive him: Linda Herman (Denny) and Roxie Peterson (John) all of Wamego, KS, Raymond Bellinger (Debbie) of Lawrence, KS, Pam Gardner (Greg) of Colorado, Paula Harmon and Janet Ramirez, both of Topeka; a nephew in-law, John Hupe, Wamego, KS; and eleven great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Doris Harmon and Marjorie Bellinger; one brother, Leonard “Bud” Brunkow; a nephew, Craig Harmon; and a niece, Cindy Hupe.   Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with family greeting friends at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547.
