Richard Alan Thomas

Richard Alan Thomas died at Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan, Kansas on December 20, 2024. 

He was born on March 23, 1952, in Holton, Kansas, the son of Kenneth and Martha (Moody) Thomas. 

Richard married Bette Belt on April 9, 1972, in Topeka, Kansas.

Richard attended Wamego High School, and Liberty College Online upon graduation, Richard committed his life to service, working at 3Rivers to assist people with disabilities and later serving as a dispatcher for the Wamego Police Department.

He was a proud Eagle Scout and a Boy Scout leader, showcasing his commitment to youth development. Beyond these roles, Richard was involved in coaching for the Special Olympics, demonstrating his determination to empower individuals with special needs to achieve their fullest potential.

Richard's family and friends knew him as a dedicated individual who brought warmth and determination to everything he did. Richard enjoyed the outdoors and had a passion for fishing at Pott 2. Lake, when he wasn't spending time outdoors he was enjoying Royals baseball and KSU sports. 

He leaves behind his beloved family, including his daughters; Angel (Justin) Burnett and Kimberly (Charles) Wolcott; his sisters, Marsha Miller, Cheryl Brown, and Brenda Asbury, Brothers, Ronnie Thomas, Bruce Thomas, and Dale Thomas. Richard was also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored him.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife; Bette (Belt) Thomas; parents, Kenneth and Martha Thomas; his son, Christopher Thomas; and his brother, Gary Thomas.

A graveside service will be held in Richard's honor at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Wamego City Cemetery, in Wamego, Kansas. Memorial contributions are suggested to Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home and can be left in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
