Robert James Evans

View Memorial Slideshow Robert James Evans, 69, of rural Wamego, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at his home. Robert was born on February 3, 1948 in Millheim, PA to Harry and Ethel (Corman) Evans. He graduated from Penns Valley High School in 1966. Robert was drafted into the US Air Force in 1968. After returning home in 1972, Robert began working at Corning Glass where he spent the next four years. In 1976 He moved to Elmo, KS where he spent several years working for Carlton Farmers Coop. He also worked at the KPL- Abilene Power Plant and Jeffery Energy Center in mechanical maintenance where he later retired in 1983 after 25 years. He was a long time member of the NRA. When Robert wasn’t working he enjoyed spending his free time outdoors hunting and loved horses. Robert was united in marriage with Sandra Marie Anderes on October 10, 1970, in Elmo, KS. She survives of the home. Survivors also include his two sons: Darrin and Brian Evans, both of Wamego, two brothers: Leo Evans, Millheim, PA, Steve Evans, Centre Hall, PA; his sister Molly Way (Glen), State College, PA; and two grandchildren Elizabeth, and Kayla. He was preceded in death by his two brothers Dick, and Jerry Evans, and a sister Alice. A visitation with family and friends celebrating Robert’s life will be held at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego on Thursday November 2, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wamego Area Veteran’s Memorial and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547.
