Robert Henry Rawson passed away Friday, September 20th, 2024, at Via Christi Village in Manhattan. He was 95 years old.
He was born on July 25, 1929, to Leonard and Nell (Wreath) Rawson on the family home west of Wamego. He graduated from Wamego schools and attended KSU. On March 1, 1953, he married Edith Marie Casper. She passed away in 2017. He was a third-generation farmer and lived his entire life in the area, farming west of town.
He was a member of 4-H and FFA in school; a member of the local Odd Fellows Lodge; a Pottawatomie County Commissioner; and an avid amateur radio operator, helping with communication in many tornado disasters in Kansas. He was also a volunteer rural fireman. He loved woodworking and restoring antique tractors. There wasn't much he couldn't fix or build.
He leaves sons Jim Rawson, Wamego; Dr. Larry Rawson (Marcie), Kailua, HI; daughters Susan Pickett (Kirk) and Linda Burgess (Brad), Wamego. Grandchildren Cameo Robinson (Ryan), Olathe; Meagan Minneman (Scott), Kansas City, MO; Mason Burgess (Stephanie), Leawood; Laura Sisco (Jerrod), Burchard, NE; Dr. Charlie Rawson (Rachelle), Kailua, HI and 7 great-grandchildren with another on the way. Also surviving are brother-in-laws John Casper (Joyce), Wamego, Ralph Casper (Cindy), Manhattan; sister-in-law Annette Peterson (Alan), Wamego, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 5 sisters.
The family would like to thank the team at Via Christi Village and Accord Hospice of Manhattan for the unbelievable care they provided during this time.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home. A reception/celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. In place of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the K-State Mobile Surgery Unit at https://www.givecampus.com/campaigns/19089/donations/new or the Kansas FFA of Wamego https://www.ksffa.org/chapters/wamego/, checks may be made payable to either organization and left in care of Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
