Velma Marie Martin, 87, of St. George, KS, passed away at Ascension Via Christi, in Manhattan, Kansas, Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was born on September 17, 1933, in Eudora, Kansas, the daughter of Francis Emerald Bryant and Ruth Marie Zimmerli Bryant.

She married Aubrey Martin on July 28, 1950, in Lakeview, Kansas; he preceded her in death in 2008. To this union, four children were born. Velma attended school in Eudora and became a homemaker after her marriage to Aubrey. Velma loved staying home and raising her children.

Velma had a great love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she enjoyed camping and bird watching. Velma was well known for her creativity and her ability to craft anything into something beautiful. She loved to go fishing, often taking the kids to the lake during summer vacation, she also loved garage sales and thrift stores no matter the weather or distance. She and her sisters spent time together driving around hunting them out all the way to the last days of her life.


Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Francis, and Ruth (Zimmerli) Bryant, her brother, Delbert Bryant, and Jack Bryant. She is survived by her children Aubrey Martin Jr. (Roberta June), Kathy Shannon (Steve), Gerald Martin (Peggy), and Dianne Walsh (Roger), brother, John Bryant (Judy), and sisters, Eva Nichols (Dave), and Stella Puckett (Clyde). Six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Mount Sidney Cemetery in Linwood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
