Victor Dale Enns, 85, of Wamego, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at the Stoneybrook Health & Rehab in Manhattan, Kansas.
Victor was born on November 4, 1937, in Halstead, Kansas, the son of Walter and Alevina (Holzrichter) Enns. He attended a local grade school and graduated in 1955 from Burrton High School.
He grew up in the Mennonite faith in his hometown and was baptized into the Christian faith as an adult. He was an active member for more than 40 years at the First United Methodist Church, in Wamego, Kansas.
Victor was an active member of his communities of Burrton and Wamego, Kansas, serving in the Burrton School board and the Wamego Lion’s Club. One of his highest honors was when he presided as mayor of Wamego in 2013.
Victor retired as a supervisor at Jeffrey Energy Center. He worked for the energy company for more than 50 years, seeing the transition from the Kansas Power & Light Company to Westar Energy, and ultimately to Evergy. After retirement, Victor worked for Black & Veatch, an engineering firm in Kansas City, Kansas, as a training manual author and hands-on training instructor for plant operators in the local and international offices.
His prized possession was his grandfather’s restored 1938 Chevrolet pick-up truck which earned him plenty of trophies and awards. Victor loved to travel the world with his wife Sherry at his side and saw many spectacular sights in Germany, Ireland, Italy, and many others.
Victor married Frances McPherson on July 7, 1956, and from this union, they had four children, Vikki, Scott, Betsy, and Tim.
Victor married Sherry Evans on October 22, 1988, in Wamego, Kansas, at the First United Methodist Church. They were joined in matrimony for 34 years; she survives of the home.
Victor is survived by his children, Vikki Trimmell (Roger), McPherson, Scott Enns, Cincinnati, Ohio, Betsy Riblett (Carl), Wamego, Tim Enns (Angela), Wichita, Jo Lynn Dominguez (Darrell), Olathe, Kansas, and Robert Baker, Silver Lake; his siblings Sara Moores (Jim), Liberty, Missouri, Merle Enns (Debra), Newton, and Randy Hurst, Hutchinson; his 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 2 great-grandsons on the way, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Gene Enns and Betty Hurst; his brother-in-law Phillip Hurst; sister-in-law Bonnie Hurst, and his daughter-in-law Della Enns.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Campanella and Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, Kansas. Family and friends are welcome to visit and share stories of Victor over a hot cup of coffee. Graveside services will be held in the Wamego City Cemetery following the visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested to Stoneybrook, Elara Caring Hospice, or the Wamego Fireworks Fund (c/o City of Wamego).
