Virginia L. Eckart, 90, of Wamego, KS passed away Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society-Valley Vista of Wamego. She was born on her family’s farm near Louisville, KS, the daughter of Carl and Alberta (Weixelman) Stich. After graduating from Wamego High School, she received a bachelor’s of art degree in Economics and Commerce from Marymount College, Salina, KS in 1950; a masters degree from Emporia State University in Business Education in 1956. She did post-graduate studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO; William Jewel, Liberty, MO; Southern Illinois, Carbondale, IL; and the University of Houston. Her lifetime profession was teaching. She taught in rural secondary schools in Goddard, Riley and Holton, KS. In 1967 until 1999 she taught at St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, MO. She substituted at the Kansas City Business College and taught as an assistant to special education teachers in Liberty, MO. She married Francis M. Eckart, June 20, 1959 in Wamego. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Eckart was a member of St. Charles Borromero Church in Gladstone, MO for forty-three years. After moving to Wamego, KS, she became a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Wamego Senior Center. She also held a lifetime membership in Delta Pi Epsilon business fraternity. Her survivors include: a brother, Michael Stich and his wife Joyce, of Wamego, KS; a sister, Martha Rogers, of Phoenix, AZ; one niece, Rebecca; and two nephews, Carl and Chris. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. A rosary will be recited at the church prior to the funeral, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
