Frank D Meinholdt

Frank Delano Meinholdt, 87, of Emporia, Kansas, formerly of Wamego, died Friday, February 12, 2021, at the Newman Regional Health Center in Emporia. He was a long-time resident of the Wamego community.

Frank was born on July 16, 1933 in rural Alma, Kansas, the son of Charles and Rose Kugler Meinholdt. He attended grade school and graduated from Alma High School in 1951. Frank then served as a mechanic in the United States Army in Japan from 1954 until 1956 during the Korean Conflict.

Frank married LaVere Hasenbank on November 11, 1956 in Wamego. After sixty-four years of marriage, she survives at their home.

Frank work in Wamego for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He worked on the engineering /survey crew. In his earlier years, Frank enjoyed collecting gas Maytag motors and rebuilding them.

Frank was a member of the American Legion, and went on the Honor Flight in 2012, to Washington D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial and, also, the Viet Nam, Korean, and Iwo Jima memorials. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Wamego and Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia. Frank enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch, and solitaire on the computer. He also loved to read and would read the local Emporia, Topeka and Wamego papers. Frank was known for his fun sense of humor and he loved to joke with people. Frank spent many hours at McDonalds visiting with the morning coffee group. He enjoyed Royal’s baseball and watching the Chiefs and K-State football. Frank’s family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his granddaughters.

Frank is also survived by his son, Alan Meinholdt (Nancy), Emporia; his granddaughters, Rachel Stubbs (Murphy), Thornton, Colorado, Cindy Meinholdt (fiancé, Pete Symmonds), Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Karen Meinholdt (fiancé, Jordan Gering), Gardner, Kansas. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Helen Logan, Esther Akers, Josephine Piel, Leo Meinholdt, George Meinholdt, Lewis Meinholdt, and Robert Meinholdt.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 19, 2021, at Campanella & Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Reverend Eddie Hosch will be officiating. Inurnment will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am. They suggest memorial contributions to Messiah Lutheran Church, and those maybe sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.campanellastewart.com
